LEWISTON — Reilley Chapman drove in seven runs on the day as the Lake City Timberwolves opened 5A Inland Empire League play with a 5-0, 20-3 sweep of the Lewiston Bengals on Saturday at Airport Park.

Chapman went 4 for 4 with five RBIs and four runs scored in the second game for Lake City (9-2, 2-0 5A IEL). Jalyssa Beamer went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

Ashley Kaufman pitched a five-hit shutout and hit a solo homer in the opener, and Haley Loffer tripled twice and scored a run for Lake City

“Cheyenne (Rose) really did a great job in the first game keeping our hitters off balance, but we were able to take advantage of a couple errors to support a great outing by AK (Kaufman),” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “In second game, our bats came alive, and we were able to jump on Lewiston early. Reilley Chapman led the charge today at the plate but all the girls really pitched in and hit the ball really well.”

Loffer went 2 for 3 with four runs and two RBI in the second game. Emma Gray drove in three runs, and Beamer, Ashlyn Allen and Reilly Williams each had three hits.

Lake City travels to Post Falls on Monday for a 5A IEL doubleheader.

Cheney 7

Sandpoint 4

CHENEY — Bri Baldree struck out five and allowed just two hits in five innings of work, but it wasn’t enough as Cheney remained undefeated by scoring six runs in the last three innings to edge Sandpoint.

Baldree and Bri Barlow each had three hits, Barlow scored twice and Tanis Davis added two hits and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (4-7), who led 4-1 in the fourth inning before the Blackhawks (9-0) plated three runs and took the lead for good. Meghan Krantz provided a spark for the Eagles with a two-run shot.

“Baldree was dominant until the fourth inning,” Sandpoint coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. “She was throwing strikes and the batters struggled to make contact.”

The Bulldogs are slowly rounding into the form that led them to a third place finish at state last year, holding their own against a solid Cheney squad.

“The defense played great today. We made very solid contact, and the top of the lineup made consistent contact. We were getting on base, moving base runners into scoring position and driving in runs. It was exciting softball,” described Hawkins-Williams. “I’m really looking forward to our league games next week. I feel like the team is in a great place right now.”

Sandpoint hosts Moscow on Tuesday in a 4A IEL doubleheader.
