TRUMP: An economic checkup

Print Article

Donald Trump castigates the Obama Administration for issues brought on by his own party.

He bemoaned languishing economic growth and lamented the state which the United States was in.

“Make America Great Again” has been the hallmark of his campaign, igniting pride and patriotism. Trump’s claims stirred ire and frustration for his own political expediency. His discontentment was in the economically derelict state we were experiencing but he turned a blind eye to his party’s inactions that led to the issues.

In July 2009, the unemployment rate was at an unbearable 9.5 percent (Bureau of Labor and Statistics), a rate that grew 4.6 percent since December 2007, beginning the recession.

The Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that as of June 2017, the unemployment rate was just 4.6 percent.

Inflation rate was an average of 3.8 percent in 2008 and for the year of 2015 it was an average of 0.1 percent.

Under Bush, federal government employment was increasing faster than employment in the private sector. Under the Obama administration, we saw 76 months of continued private sector growth.

We are becoming tone deaf from the rhetorical cacophony of ill-informed opinions and half truths that seem to continue to waft in today’s newsrooms to suit a certain political ideology.

Trump must tone down his malicious opinions and use the world stage that he has found himself on to bring solutions instead of shallow, purposeless critiques.
