Thanking those who make a difference

Print Article

Back in October, in reference to the mass shooting in Las Vegas, I mentioned a quote by Mr. Rogers about helpers.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” — Fred Rogers

The week before Christmas, I attended a most wonderful gathering of helpers in our community. Tammy Kelly, owner of Outback Steakhouse in Coeur d’Alene, treated representatives from United Way, their participating organizations and many other local nonprofits to a luncheon. Tammy said she wanted to say thank you to people in our community who make a difference in the lives of others.

As we start a new year, we all should remember to look for the helpers. We’re blessed as a community to have so many people who fit that description.

While the majority of us enter a new year resolving to do better and be better, someone started off earning some very bad karma. On New Year’s Day the Post Falls Police Department took a report from a server who received a $200 tip. The bills were counterfeits. I wish I knew who the server was and their place of employment so I could leave a tip with genuine bills.
