A Coeur d’Alene man presented a family treasure to the Post Falls Police Department — a gift that will honor local veterans.
Jim Frame donated his uncle’s World War II American flag to the Post Falls Police Department’s Veteran Flag Program.
Frame, a member of the Military Ministry at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene, is one of many people in the community who have been touched by the sentiment behind the new program.
As a final tribute to a veteran who recently died, Post Falls police covered his body with a flag while he was transferred to the funeral home vehicle. It was a spontaneous gesture that quickly became something more.
The community began gathering more flags to cover the bodies of deceased veterans during death investigations. Citizens have donated flags and money, raising more than $2,000 for the Veteran Flag Program in just eight days.
