Two passengers were injured around 10 p.m. Saturday after an accident at the intersection of Paris Road and Brown Station Road.

Aaron Monroe, 38, was driving a motorcycle with Michele Groves, 39, as a passenger. Monroe ran a red light going north on Paris Road. The motorcycle hit a car driven by Marilynn Young, 38, and both riders of the motorcycle were ejected.

Police have reason to believe that Monroe was under the influence of drugs or alcohol based on observations from officers and paramedics on the scene, according to the Officer Nathan Turner, major crash investigator for the Columbia Police Department.

Monroe suffered moderate injuries. Groves was reported to have serious/life threatening injuries and her condition was critical on Monday. Both passengers were taken to University Hospital, Turner said.

Turner's investigation of the incident is ongoing.
