Jordan Sales & Service is a three generation family business

Nick Jordan, Brian Jordan, Terry Jordan represent three generations for Jordan Sales & Service, a Post Falls tractor business, that serves rural customers.

Many businesses try to treat their employees like family. In the case of Jordan Sales & Service, the people working there really are family.

“I am fortunate to be able to come to work every day and see my son, Brian, my daughter, Brenda, my daughter-in-law, Cindy and my grandson, Nick, who work here too,” says co-owner Terry Jordan. “I love it.”

Part of what motivates Terry is his family. His son, Brian, is his partner.

“It's what I strive for,” he says. “I always wanted my family close to me.”

Jordan Sales & Service sells a high volume of tractors, including TYM and KIOTI brands. Those manufacturers have applauded Jordan Sales & Service sales with industry awards for years. Jordan also sells mowers and trailers, along with earth moving equipment.

“Thirty-five years ago, we were selling cars, but things evolved into tractors and we haven't looked back,” says Terry. “We've found a niche and we're the highest volume tractor dealer in the area.”

The thriving business caters to people living the rural lifestyle in an 80-mile radius of Post Falls. However, Jordan Sales & Services has customers in southern Idaho and as far away as Wyoming.

“Our customers live in the outlying areas and they have some acreage,” says Terry. “They need tractors and other equipment to maintain their property and do things like clear brush, or plow their drive. We do have agricultural customers, but they're not our bread and butter.”

Jordan Sales & Service was named Rural Lifestyle Dealer of the Year a few years back, a point of great pride with Terry.

“That award means a lot because it captures who we are as a business,” he says. “Monday mornings are great when you have people coming in saying, 'I love my tractor,' instead of a line of people coming in venting frustrations. Yes, we handle the problems too, but this is a happy place to be.”

Like a family, the Post Falls business continues to expand its operation with a larger space, increased inventory of equipment and parts.

“We're growing,” Terry says. “And that's exciting.”

So how does his family function day in and day out without drama?

“We've found our comfort zone and we treat each other fairly,” he says. “We truly enjoy each other and appreciate each other.”

The family atmosphere is appealing to customers.

“I think our customers like that we are a family working together,” he says. “They know us and they turn into friends. They know that we're going to be here for them.”

With no plans of retirement, Terry, 66, enjoys exploring the Northwest in his recreational vehicle.

“Oh I love lakes in the Northwest, and I still haven't been to all of them,” he says with a chuckle. “I think this is such a beautiful place.”

His offspring are avid golfers, and he doesn't mind following them around on the course in his golf cart. Terry also savors backyard barbecues with — you guessed it —- his family.
