Growing up on gears

Luke Arrotta co-owns the Midway Automotive Group with his brothers

Tyson, Luke and Zach Arrotta recently bought the Post Falls Findlay Hyundai automobile dealership.

Owning a significant share of a car dealership at age 27 could overwhelm a lot of people.

However, Luke Arrotta is not like most people.

He lives and breathes that new car smell — even if he owns a 1969 Z28 Camaro.

“I've alway loved cars,” Luke says. “I am big a fan of muscle cars, the classics, and the new cars. I love getting to drive the new cars too and seeing the latest technology. I have a pretty cool job.”

The Coeur d'Alene resident grew up on car lots under the tutelage of his father, Joe Arrotta, who owned dealerships throughout the Inland Northwest for years.

The Arrotta boys - Luke, Tyson and Zach - started washing cars, vacuuming them and polishing windows. Then they moved up to sales, service, finance and managing teams of employees.

So when the trio purchased the Post Falls Findlay Hyundai automobile franchise in June,  it was a continuation of their family's professional journey.

“It's been something we've dreamed about doing our whole lives,” says Luke. “My brothers and I have all grown up in the car business. We've worked in my dad's dealerships and have done every job there is to do, whether that's washing cars, selling them, servicing them -  we know the car business.”

The dealership is now known as the Midway Automotive Group and Midway Hyundai. Luke and Tyson are primarily handling the sales and finance departments, while Zach oversees the service department.

“The great thing is that we can interact with every customer that comes through the door,” says Luke. “For me, I personally take a lot of satisfaction out of meeting people from all walks of life and helping them.”

Midway Automotive Group is also about giving back to local nonprofits in the area.

“We've always supported the Post Falls Food Bank, the Holidays for Heroes program and youth sports,” says Luke. “Tyson and Zach have families and they're very active in the community.”

Luke says he and his brothers are grounded in the philosophy of being honest and open with customers.

“We try to make everything as transparent as possible,” says Luke. “We're in the relationship business, so we want to have our customers come back for years into the future.”

Speaking of the future, the Arrottas have big plans that include moving to a new location. Midway Automotive Group is now at 1665 E. Edmonton, but next summer it will move to a new building with a showroom, service center and parts department at 1885 E. Polston.

Hours for sales are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Service and parts are open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call (208) 619-2500 or visit www.gotomidway.com online.

The dealership sells new and preowned cars, trucks and SUVs, and Tige boats. The Arrotta family has been in the automotive business for more than 30 years.

The first salesman the Arrotta brothers hired was a natural and obvious choice.

“My dad is semi-retired,” says Luke. “But he's here almost every day. He came to us and said, 'I just want to sell cars,' and we couldn't think of a better person to be our first salesman.”
