Coal industry star of ‘From the Ashes’ documentary

COEUR d’ALENE — The Idaho Conservation League will be screening the documentary “From the Ashes” on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

“From Appalachia to the West’s Powder River Basin, the film goes beyond the rhetoric of the ‘war on coal’ to present stories about what is at stake for our economy, health and climate,” said a news release. “The film invites audiences to learn more about an industry on the edge and what it means for their lives.”

A National Geographic film, “From the Ashes” premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival and documents Americans in communities across the country as they wrestle with the legacy of the coal industry, and what its future under the Trump administration.

Anne Hedges, deputy director of the Montana Environmental Information Center and featured in this film, will answer questions and share her experience of working to transition Montana away from coal.

“From the Ashes” film screening is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Lake City Playhouse, 1320 E. Garden Avenue, Coeur d’Alene.

Tickets are $5.
