CAROUSEL: Help needed

Print Article

The supporters of the carousel report being disappointed that visitors who arrive for major events are not coming to the carousel. But how would they know it exists? There is not a single flier or poster promoting the carousel on any community board or store window along Sherman Avenue. Nothing in City Park near the bandstand or the playgrounds, either. I have seen no signage pointing you toward the carousel from any of the areas visitors frequent. Am I wrong to imagine that the Kiwanis or the Art on the Green event would have allowed some advertising had they been asked? Maybe someone circulating in public areas with a poster board?

If visitors notice the big yellow building when they drive into town, would the first guess be that it is a carousel? If they do know what it is, how can they tell when it is open for business?

I adore the carousel, and have donated money to it. But before your article ran, I was convinced that the people who restored it actually do not want to see it used very much. If this is not the truth, they need to find a person with some marketing and promotion experience to advise them. I wish them great success.
