ARTS: Love ‘em locally

Print Article

A BIG THANK YOU to The Press for recognizing the arts’ contribution to the quality of our lives. The Spokane Symphony is indeed a priceless part of our Inland Northwest music community. But so are our many smaller performing groups — Chorale Coeur d’Alene, Spokane Choral Artists and Sweet Adelines, to name but a few.

At this time when schools are squeezed to limit the arts in favor of the more marketable pursuits of Math and Science, churches often are moving away from traditional choral works in favor of praise bands and other more contemporary fare and larger support entities are politically threatened with funds starvation, these smaller local groups present quality music in convenient venues at affordable prices.

These performers are your friends, family and neighbors — SUPPORT THEM. I promise you won’t regret it.
