PASCO, Wash. — Jake Pfennigs and Nate Buer scored two runs each for the Post Falls Trojans in a 6-4 win over the Chiawana Riverhawks on Friday afternoon.

Wes Brown and Jake Rutherford did not allow a walk for Post Falls, which took advantage of two bases-loaded walks to Cameron McKeown in the win.

“I was real pleased with the pitchers and our defense,” said Post Falls coach Mick Zeller, whose team did not commit an error in the opener. “I knew we’d struggle offensively, but did just enough and ran the bases really well.”

Post Falls stole five bases in the opener.

In the second game, Buer went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, but a late walk and error allowed the Riverhawks to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Post Falls will face Kennewick and Kamiakin today.

Kolden and Manzardo combined to one-hit Mead in Lake City’s season opener.

“It was a good team win,” Lake City coach Paul Manzardo said. “We played solid defense and did what we needed to do to get a win. I was really pleased with the boys performance on the mound and it kept us in a situation to win the game. Overall, it was a great day for it only being the third day we’d been outside. We did better than what I anticipated.”

Lake City is scheduled to host Moscow on Tuesday.

Walla Walla 5-6

Coeur d’Alene 4-10

WALLA WALLA — Kellen Langley drove in three runs and Trevor Luckey and Caleb Beggerly had two-out singles as the Vikings scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat the Blue Devils in the second game.

“It was one of those things where we didn’t get off the bus in the first game,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin, whose team traveled to Pasco to open the season against Mead on Tuesday. “We just couldn’t pull it out, but came back in the second game and Kellen had a great day behind the plate and at the plate. Defensively, we played well and did what we needed to do to get the win.”

Luckey and Langley had two hits each in the second game for Coeur d’Alene (2-1), which is scheduled to play at Asotin on Tuesday.
