Fun, run, bike events: Part 1

Print Article

Every year around this time, I publish a fairly complete list of late winter/early spring races and events that range from fun runs, triathlons, bike rides and so on. This year is no different from previous years; we have a few new events and lost a few long-standing and well-loved events. The consistent aspect of all these activities is it gives us all an opportunity to get off our keisters and get some exercise along with a fair amount of fun and community involvement.

This year I have added asterisks to the events that are great for sedentary first-timers and for people looking for more fun rather than serious racing. This does not mean those athletes that want to break a 5 minute pace can’t still show up and put the rest of us in awe. I just want to highlight and encourage folks who avoid these type of activities to get out of their comfort zone, break out their tutus and crawl to the finish line in style or at least show up and get some much needed exercise.

Here is the most current list of races from February through May. This does not represent all the races or events, just the ones that have been posted or announced. If I have missed any you think should be on the list, let me know and I will try to get them published in a subsequent column or in March when I post the summer/fall 2017 schedule.
